Building a fairer way to work in care
Privacy policy

What we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

1. About this policy

Nurse Me (ABN 43 399 621 354) ("Care Career", "we", "us") operates carecareer.au, a job and education marketplace connecting job seekers, employers and education providers in Australia's health and care sector. We're bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and this policy explains how we handle personal information under both.

This policy applies to job seekers, employers, education providers, and anyone who otherwise visits or uses the platform. It doesn't apply to information we hold about our own employees in their capacity as employees, which is generally exempt under the Privacy Act.

2. Personal information we collect

If you're a job seeker, we may collect: your name, contact details, home postcode, current role title, resume and any information within it, application content and cover notes, the credentials and registrations you tell us you hold, your shift and day availability, and records of the jobs you've saved or applied to.

If you're an employer, we may collect: your organisation's name and ABN, registration details relevant to verification (such as NDIS or aged care registration), the contact details of individuals who use the account on the organisation's behalf, job listing content, and applicant management activity.

If you're an education provider, we may collect: your organisation's name and ABN, registration or accreditation details relevant to verification (such as RTO status), the contact details of individuals who use the account on the organisation's behalf, and course listing content including pricing and registration details.

We don't intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health information, in the Privacy Act's specific sense) unless you volunteer it — for example, in a cover note. Please avoid including sensitive information in application content unless it's genuinely relevant to the role.

3. How we collect it

Directly from you, when you create a profile, employer account or provider account, apply for a role, post a job or course listing, set your availability, or contact us. We may also collect limited technical information automatically (such as device and usage data) to operate and secure the platform — see Section 14.

4. Why we collect, use, and disclose it

To operate the marketplace: matching job seekers to relevant listings, sending applications to employers, running the employer and provider verification and listing review process (for both job and course listings), and maintaining accounts.

To communicate with you about your account, applications, or listings, and — where you've opted in — job alerts and platform updates.

To maintain the safety and integrity of the platform, including investigating reports of misuse or suspicious activity.

To meet our own legal obligations, including under the Privacy Act.

5. Who we disclose it to

When you apply for a role, your application details are disclosed to the employer for that specific listing. That's the core function of the platform, and applying is how you consent to that disclosure for that role.

We may disclose limited information to service providers who help us run the platform — including providers of cloud hosting and infrastructure, application performance and error monitoring, website analytics, customer communications, and security and fraud-prevention services — bound by confidentiality and security obligations, and only to the extent needed for them to provide that service to us.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose more than is necessary to regulators or law enforcement, except where required or authorised by law.

6. Overseas disclosure

We use a number of service providers to help us operate the platform, including for cloud hosting and infrastructure, application performance and error monitoring, website analytics, customer communications, and security and fraud-prevention. Some of these providers store or process personal information outside Australia, which may include jurisdictions such as the United States and other countries in which our service providers or their sub-processors operate.

Before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps, as required under Australian Privacy Principle 8, to ensure that recipient doesn't breach the Australian Privacy Principles in relation to that information — including through contractual arrangements that require our service providers to protect personal information to a standard consistent with the APPs. We remain accountable for personal information we disclose overseas in this way, consistent with APP 8.1, except where an exception under APP 8.2 applies.

If you'd like more information about the countries in which your personal information is likely to be held, contact us using the details in Section 17.

7. Direct marketing

If you subscribe to job alerts or our newsletter, we'll send them until you unsubscribe — every message includes a way to opt out, consistent with the Spam Act 2003. We don't send marketing on behalf of third parties.

8. Automated matching and scoring

Care Career uses an automated feature that affects what job seekers see — a shift-availability match score, calculated from the information described in Section 2 (your availability, and the job's stated shift requirements). It's advisory: it doesn't automatically approve, reject, or hide anyone from an employer. A human review step applies to every listing posted directly on Care Career before it goes live; listings aggregated from third-party job boards are not reviewed in the same way — see our Trust & Safety page for more detail.

9. Business contact information

Separately from the platform accounts described in Section 2, our team may hold contact details of individuals at organisations we're not yet working with — for example, a name, work email, phone number, and role title for someone at a prospective employer, education provider, or partner organisation. We collect this to reach out about the platform, generally sourced from publicly available business information (such as a company website) or provided directly by the individual.

We may keep an internal, disclosed record of our own outreach to that organisation — such as which stage a conversation is at and when we last made contact — used only to prioritise our own follow-up and never to make any decision about the individual personally. This isn't shared outside Care Career and isn't used for any purpose beyond business development.

If you'd like us to correct or delete business contact information we hold about you, or opt out of further outreach, contact us using the details in Section 17.

10. Data security

We take technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, consistent with APP 11 as clarified by the 2024 reforms. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we design the platform, including access controls around employer verification and application data, with this obligation in mind.

We keep personal information only as long as it's needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

11. Access and correction

You can ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at any time — see Section 17 for how. We'll respond within a reasonable period. There are limited circumstances where the Privacy Act allows us to decline an access request, in which case we'll explain why.

12. Data breaches

If a data breach occurs that's likely to result in serious harm — an "eligible data breach" under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme — we'll notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

13. Children and young people

Care Career is intended for people old enough to legally work in Australia. Consistent with the eligibility requirement in Section 3 of our Terms of Service, you must be at least 18 years old to create an account or otherwise use the platform, and this platform isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if we become aware that we have, we'll take reasonable steps to delete it promptly. If you believe a child or young person has provided us with personal information, contact us using the details in Section 17.

14. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for a few distinct purposes: essential cookies that keep you signed in and remember your preferences; analytics and performance-monitoring services that help us understand how the platform is used in aggregate — for example, which pages are visited and how search and filters are used — and help us detect and diagnose technical errors; and security and fraud-prevention services that help verify a form submission is coming from a genuine person rather than automated software. We don't use cookies for third-party advertising or ad retargeting.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the platform, like staying signed in, from working properly. Where required by law, we'll ask for your consent to non-essential cookies via a cookie banner before they're set.

15. Complaints

If you think we've mishandled your personal information, contact us first using the details in Section 17 — we'll investigate and respond. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC at oaic.gov.au.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be highlighted on this page, with an updated "last updated" date above.
